Longtime Lincoln County and Bear Lake County, Idaho resident, LaVoy O. Taylor, 77, passed from this life on Jan. 13, at the Riverton Memorial Hospital in Riverton.

LaVoy was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Cokeville. He was the youngest of eleven children born to William R. (Tex) and Charity May (Branson) Taylor. He spent most of his childhood in Cokeville, and Montpelier, Idaho. He graduated from Cokeville High School.

After graduating from high school, LaVoy attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City. From there, he moved to Wells, Nev., where he taught school and coached high school basketball. Deciding to further his education, LaVoy moved to Laramie, to attend the University of Wyoming where he earned his Juris Doctorate in Law in 1964.

His degree allowed him to work as an attorney for 47 years, a job that he truly loved. For a time, LaVoy worked as an attorney for the Utah State Attorney General's Office. He also worked for Lincoln County as an attorney. For the majority of his working life however, he was a sole practitioner of the law. LaVoy was a member of the Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah State Bars. The practice of law was his passion.

LaVoy also found time to build a gas station, Longview Estates subdivision, the Red Dog Saloon, and the Hideout Motel in Cokeville.

He loved the outdoors and liked to hike, fish, hunt, golf, ride horses, and was a "rock hound." He also loved genealogy and researched much of his family's history.

He loved his family and did his best to instill his love of knowledge often saying "Knowledge is power. It is something that no one can take from you." He enjoyed telling old stories and jokes.

LaVoy is survived by his companion and wife, Faye N. Taylor, their daughter; Charity A. Taylor, and his daughters from a prior marriage; Wendy J. Taylor (Mann); Trudy L. Taylor (Wolfe); and Jill Taylor (Heiner), and his granddaughters; Elisha A. Kemp (Peters); Andrea J. Kemp; and Catrina Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons; Tyrone Taylor and Thor O. Taylor.
