Gayle Mearetta (Carlson) Taylor (1923 - 2011)
PROVIDENCE - Gayle Mearetta Carlson Taylor, 88, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Providence, Utah, with her loving son by her side.
Gayle was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Logan, Utah, to Victor Eugene and Mary Mearitta McNeil Carlson. Gayle spent her entire life in Logan.
She married Arnold (Lefty) Taylor on Aug. 6, 1941, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They had two sons, Arnold Dennis Taylor (deceased) and Boyd (Janet) Taylor.
Gayle made friends easily and forged many lifelong friendships, which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed the associations she had with her bowling team and her club group. She loved shopping and she and Arnold never missed their daily stops at Angie's restaurant.
Gayle was a very talented knitter, having knitted sweaters and sweater coats that she entered in the Cache County fairs, earning several blue ribbons for her excellent craftsmanship. She later learned to crochet, making many afghans for her home and her grandchildren.
Gayle's working career included work at a local dry-cleaning business. She also worked for and managed the Wonder Bread Thrift Store for many years, retiring in 1992.
After retirement she enjoyed several years working at the Gift Shop at Logan Regional Hospital. Gayle always liked being sociable and working with the public and enjoying her friends. Arnold and Gayle loved to go to Jackson Hole in the summers and enjoyed the friendship of good people there.
After Arnold's death in 2003, Gayle moved to Providence where she made many new friends, whom she cherished dearly. She resided the last year at the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center where she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her parents; all her siblings; her husband; son, Arnold Dennis Taylor; and a great-grandson, Drake Lewis Taylor. She is survived by her son, Boyd (Janet) Taylor, and their six children; Dennis' children, Kevin (Tara) Taylor, Shelly (Michael) Funk and Laurie (Max) Jones; and daughter-in-law, Sandy (Larry) Adams, and their two children. She had 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Gayle was proud of her family and cherished each visit from her loved ones. She especially had a soft spot in her heart for the little redheaded ones.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living, Dr. Vera Carlson and the staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice that loved and served Gayle these past months. Their dedication and care of Gayle are greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Providence 4th Ward chapel, 155 N. 100 East, Providence, with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E.
