PRESTON TAWES DIED IN BALTIMORE
Mr. Preston Tawes, highly respected Crisfield resident, died in the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore on Sunday, where he had been a patient for about two weeks. He was 82 years of age.
He was the son of the late Chas. R. and Eliza Evans Tawes, and was born in Crisfield, and lived here for a number of years.
In his younger days he followed the water, as a crabber and oysterman, but moved to Baltimore and became connected with Miller Brothers Restaurant as a seafood buyer, traveling the Atlantic Coast at times to engage the type of seafood the restaurant has been famous for.
For some years he has been retired, and has been spending the summer months in Crisfield and the winter in Baltimore with his daughter.
Mr. Tawes was good company, kindly, intelligent, with a wide circle of warm friends. He was a specialist in seafood and in late years when he was in Crisfield during the summers, he went fishing and crabbing, as he always had enjoyed being on the water.
He had been a member of Immanuel Methodist Church for a long time, attending its services and enjoying its fellowship. He had friends in many places who held him in high esteem and regard.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home here, conducted by the Rev. J. Howard Link, pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church. Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery.
Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Harry A. (Ethel) Tracey; one granddaughter, Mrs. June Stickler; and one great-grandchild, all of Baltimore.
