David Carson Tatum was the first born child of Wright Hadley Tatum and Georgia Wesley Callsion Tatum. The middle name of 'Carson' was in honor of some close family friends. David was an accomplished pilot. He married Frances Marie Renner in Kansas City in 1930. At the time of his marriage, he joined the Roman Catholic Church as his wife was from a very large Catholic family. This couple did not have any children. When World War II arrived, he enlisted into the Army as a Private (Co. C, 126th Infantry). He served in several of the major campaigns and survived some of the most vicious fighting in the South Pacific. He acquired five different types of malaria and ran a very high fever. When he died very suddenly in 1963, an autopsy was performed. It was found that the cause was cardiac arrest. The pathologist stated that the internal lining of his heart was significantly blistered. The pathologist stated that he had never seen that before, but he thought that it was related to David's malaria. David worked at his father's company, The Hadley Tatum Company.
