MRS. F.D. MAURER DIES SUDDENLY ON BIRTHDAY
Stricken While Talking With a Group of Friends Sunday
Death came suddenly yesterday to Mrs. Fred Maurer, of 421 West Scott street, while she was chatting with a group of friends about remembrances she had received that day in honor of her 74th birthday anniversary.
Mrs. Maurer apparently was in excellent health yesterday. She attended church services in the morning and seemed to enjoy the sermon greatly, according to her husband[,] she enjoyed the special dinner in honor of her birthday, and then wrote some letters in the afternoon. She went in the postoffice to mail the letters and returning, stopped at the home of Mrs. W.P. Blake, 515 West Jefferson, where Mrs. Ben Tully, Mrs. George Korns and Mrs. R.C. Borah were calling upon Mrs. Blake.
The ladies had been talking of birthdays and the conversation turned to flowers. Suddenly it was noticed that Mrs. Maurer's head had fallen to one shoulder. The other ladies rushed to her side, and Mr. Blake was called from an adjoining room. Mr. Blake tried to restore respiration by moving her arms, but no sign of life appeared. Dr. Brooker ws called from the Laughlin hospital, nearby, and stated that Mrs. Maurer apparently had died instantly.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurer were married Nov. 11, 1920. She was formerly Mrs. Emma Gardner, and resided at LaPlata until her marriage to Mr. Maurer. Besides her husband, the only surviving relative is a sister, a Mrs. Moody, who lives in St. Louis.
Funeral arrangements will not be made until word is received from Mrs. Moody.
