Mrs. Barnes, 68, Retired Teacher Dies; Rites Set

Mrs Ethel Tanner Barnes, 68, retired McCracken County school teacher, died Sunday at 8:10pm at Lourdes Hospital, following an extended illness.

A native of Barlow, Mrs Barnes was a graduate of Barlow High School and one of the early graduates of Murray State College.

During her teaching career, she taught in the Paducah city schools and in the McCracken County Schools.

A resident of Paducah since 1926, she lived at 3103 Old Benton Road.

Mrs Barnes was a member of Woodlawn Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was the daughter of the late Hubert Byrd and Mrs. Lillie Hilton Tanner of Barlow.

Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roth Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Hoyt Owens and the Rev. Paul Belt. Burial will be in Barlow Cemetery.

Mrs Barnes is survived by her husband, Noble C Barnes; a daughter, Mrs Thayer Stem Allison Sr of Wilmington, NC; two grandchildren Thayer Stem Allison Jr and Miss Lillie Annette Allison, also of Wilmington; a brother, H Wallace Tanner Sr of Paducah; a nephew, Wallace Tanner Jr of Paducah; a niece, Mrs Andrew S Parker of Green Brier, Tenn; several great-nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews.
