Margaret Louise Fithen, 71, of Long Beach, Wash., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, in Long Beach.
She was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to Charles and Lenora (Wells) Talkington. She attended school in Clarksburg and Wheeling, W.Va.
In 1954, she married Daniel Fithen in West Virginia. He preceded her in death in 1973. The couple moved Boise, Idaho, then Olympia, Wash., then to the Long Beach (Wash.) Peninsula until her husband's death.
Mrs. Fithen moved back to Boise, where she returned to school for advanced training. She began a career working for the state employment office, a job that brought her back to the Long Beach Peninsula, where she worked until her retirement.
She was an active member of the Chinook (Wash.) Lutheran Church and was a member of the choir. She also served on the Ilwaco (Wash.) Planning Commission.
Family members said she enjoyed bowling, reading and playing the organ. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dorina Fithen of Grays River, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dot Talkington of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Harold Payne of Sun City, Ariz., and Jeanie and Harold Coursey of Ilwaco; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by two sons.
A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach. A reception will follow.
Inurnment will take place at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Meridian, Idaho, at a later date.
