Sarah Jane was born in Louisiana and moved to Nederland in 1906. After moving to Nederland, Sarah Jane married into the Block family in 1919, one of the founding families of Port Neches.
She was the mother of W. T. Block (1920-2007), a well known East Texas historian. Sarah's name has been long associated with a local Halloween tale that takes place at a bridge and a road commonly known as Sarah Jane Bridge and Sarah Jane Road. Although the road and bridge are not formally named "Sara Jane" it is a well known local name due to the tale. Versions of the tale abound...probably something Sarah Jane just as well not be blessed with.
