Elaine Herlovich, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Mike Benson and the Rev. B. J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Herlovich was born January 18, 1930, in Americus, Georgia, to the late Frank Elmore and Helen Joyner Swearingen. She moved to the community in 1964, from Donalsonville. Mrs. Herlovich graduated from Waycross High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and her Master’s degree from Georgia Southwestern College. She was also chosen “Miss Georgia Southwestern” while she attended college there. She was an educator, teaching typing and shorthand at the Fitzgerald High School, media specialist at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical School and also a caseworker for DFACS. Mrs. Herlovich was a member of the Educator’s Association. She enjoyed playing tennis and piano in her younger years, and was an avid bridge player. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her grandchildren; great-grandchildren: and a sister-in-law: Frances Elmore of Macon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Carlton H. “Sug” Herlovich and a daughter: Joy Reeves.
