A memorial service will be held for Vivien Bultema, 84, of Chico, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005, at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home. She died January 4, 2005.
Vivian was born on May 29, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Andrew and Huldah Swanson. She graduated from high school in Minneapolis and then worked at Sears Roebuck for five years. For two years she attended Trinity College in Chicago, Illinois and sang in a girl's trio and traveled two summers representing the school. She then moved back to Minneapolis and worked for 10 years at the Beacon Book Store - the official bookstore of the Evangelical Free Church of America.
She loved music and sang in the choir at the Chico Evangelical Free Church for over 30 years. She was the choir librarian for several years and also served as church historian.
In 1957 she married Donald Bultema in Minneapolis and they then moved to Richvale, Calif. and later to Chico. Donald was a rice farmer until his retirement.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald and brother Dwight Swanson. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
