Larry Dean Supanich, age 47, of Wendover, Utah and formerly of L'Anse passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 leaving a world full of loved ones and family.
Larry was born on Sept. 15, 1960 to Frank Jr. and Marcy Supanich and raised in the small Upper Peninsula town of L'Anse. After graduating from high school, Larry joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to unit #820 of the Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair squadron (Red Horse). During his four year stint in the Air Force, Larry helped to build runways in exotic places such as Egypt and was also brought to the desert border town of Wendover, Utah. In Wendover, Larry met his future wife Kerrie and eventually settled down there and raised a family to include two beautiful daughters, Allison and Morgan.
Larry was a central figure in the community as an always smiling and friendly face at the town's Utah post office. He worked for over 20 years for the United States Postal Service with many of those years as Post Master. Larry enjoyed the wide-open expanses of the desert and mountains surrounding Wendover. It was those expanses that brought him back to Utah after a brief return to his birth state to work as the post master in the town of Bark River, MI.
Larry deeply cared for and loved his family. He also loved his "toys" including rebuilt old cars, off-road motorcycles, street motorcycles, and an assortment of valuable rifles and pistols. He cared for his toys as if he wanted them to last forever. He did the same with his close circle of longtime friends. Those fortunate to know and be touched by Larry's presence will dearly miss his cheery attitude, infectious smile, dependability, and sense of adventure.
Larry is survived by his loving family, wife Kerrie, daughters, Allison and Morgan, all of Wendover, Utah, his parents Frank Jr. and Marcy Supanich, siblings, Frank (Janet) Supanich, sisters, Deb (Dave) Perrow and Dawn Supanich and Kevin Kalliainen, of L'Anse. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Dale in 1956, and brother Gary in 1997.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at noon Saturday Dec. 15, 2007 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. Father George Maki will officiate and internment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded in the funeral chapel at 11:30 a.m., under the direction of the America Legion Post 444, Baraga with Baraga area veterans attending. Following the services, friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located in the funeral home.
