David W. Summers, a well-known retired farmer of Middletown Valley died last night, after a short illness, aged 80 years, 4 months and 7 days. Although he had been in falling health for some time Mr. Summers was not confined to the bed until last Tuesday. Death was due to hardening of the arteries. He was a member of a large family, all of whom have died except one brother, Joshua Summers, of Myersville. He is survived by the following children: Calvin D.H. Summers, near Middletown; J. Elmer Summers, near Harmony; Alvey J. Summers, on the home farm, north of Middletown, with whom Mr. Summers, made his home; Minnie C. V. Stottlemyer, wife of Newton Stottlemyer, of Beaver Creek, Washington county; Annie E. Joy, wife of J. Shester Joy, of Graceham.
Mr Summers was a director of the Valley Savings Bank, of Middletown, and belonged to the Middletown Lutheran Church. Some years ago he served as a member of the Board of Charities and Corrections which had charge of Montevue Hospital.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning, leaving the house at 10 o'clock. Services will be held at the Lutheran Church at 11 o'clock. The pallbearers will be the directors of the Valley Savings Bank. Interment will be made in the Reformed Cemetery at Middletonw. C.T.K. Gladhill is the funeral director.
