Richard J. Sullivan Sr., 76, of Scarborough, died peacefully Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his residence with his family by his side, following a short bout of lung cancer.
Richard was born in South Portland, the son of Edward and Thelma (Morton) Sullivan, where he was educated and was a graduate of Scarborough High School, Class of 1948.
Richard joined the United States Army in 1951, where he served in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1953.
He was married to Patricia Field on February 9, 1957.
He worked for Maine Central and Boston Maine Railroad and then went to work for American Can. In 1972, Richard went to SMVTI for Plant and Soil Technology. In 1973, he started R.J. Sullivan Lawn Care in Scarborough, which he ran with his son, Danny, until his retirement in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Patricia Sullivan; three sons, Richard J. and wife, Amanda E. Sullivan Jr., John E. Sullivan, Daniel P. and wife, Brenda A. Sullivan, all of Scarborough; and his two dogs, Jake and Bodeaux.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2006, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, with a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, June 20 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Scarborough. Interment to follow at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough.
