Edna was born in Wayne County on December 13, 1925 to the late Henry Gilbert Sullivan and Mary Ward Sullivan. She was married to the late Deams Manning Howell and Garry V. Orton. Edna was a longtime member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church, served as the pianist and organist for over 40 years, past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary, church clerk for over 23 years, taught Sunday school and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. Edna was a generous and gracious woman. She will be remembered for the love and laughter that she shared during her well-lived life.
A service celebrating Edna’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church with Rev. Reynolds Smith and Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Edna is survived by her son, Gilbert E. Howell and wife Sharon; daughter, Charlene H. Reese and husband, Danny; four granddaughters, Katrina Kornegay and husband Tommy, Leigh Ann Horton and husband Jon, Allison Wolfe and husband Jason, and Courtney Howell and husband Justin; great-grandchildren, Kristin, Gauge, Tank, Tyler, Garrett, Cole, Cora Beth, Emma, and Ava; and one brother, Cedric E. Sullivan.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
