Pauline Sturgis Brockman was born in Hughes County, Oklahoma in 1924, the youngest of 5 children. The family came to California to escape the rigors of the "Dustbowl" to start a new life in Corona, California. She attended high school in Corona where she met her sweetheart, Gerry Brockman. The married in June of 1943 in Denver, Colorado, just before he was deployed for military service. The family lived in Corona until moving to Roseville, California, in 1958 where they raised their family. Gerry and Pauline would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this June.
Pauline started a long career working for the City of Roseville, first as a librarian, then being appointed as the City's first woman city clerk, in July of 1973, until her retirement in 1985. During her career she also served as the President of the California City Clerks Association and was a long standing member of the Roseville Soroptmists. She was known for her tenacity and work ethic which earned her the nickname "Bulldog".
She and her husband traveled extensively around the world: Great Britain, Europe, New Zealand, Greece, Hawaii, and even an East-Africa Safari. After they purchased an RV, they spent a lot of time camping with family and pets until 2011 when declining health required them to remain closer to home. Some of their favorite camping spots included Olema Ranch, Sea Cliff, Bodega Bay, Wrights Beach, on the California Coast, Lake Tahoe, Glen Ivy, Southern California, and visiting with family still living in Southern California.
Survived by her loving husband Gerry, and their little black poodle Wendi, son Ron Brockman (Karen), daughter Pat Shearer-Young (Don), grandsons Tom Brockman and Kevin Shearer (Erica), and granddaughter Melissa (Brockman) Vignau (Jeff). She loved spending time with her family including 4 great-grandchildren Kaylee Shearer, 5 years old, Kaden Shearer, 2 years old, Lilly Vignau, 1.5 years old, and 6 month old Abegayle Brockman. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Susan Page, Paula Kaufold, Sandy Sare, Jimmy Sturgis, Bobby Sturgis, Sharon Sturgis, and Kelly Meister and all of their families.
Proceeded in death by Randy (Ron's twin brother) shortly after his birth, parents Goldi and Alonzo Sturgis, brothers Carl, Son and Ralph and sister Delores Page, nieces Barbara and Jeannie.
Pauline lived life to the fullest, was an optimist with an incredible will to live even in declining health. She was loved and admired by all who came to know her. She was recently hospitalized with an infection and sepsis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 21st, 2013, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the families home.
