Harry Maury "John" Studds Jr., 92, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, at his residence in Colonial Beach.
John was a World War II Navy veteran, having served from 1942 to 1945 on the USS Franklin. Following his service in the Navy, he was a bus driver at AB&W Transit Co. for 29 years. In 1969, after retiring, he moved to Colonial Beach, where he spent his remaining years working as a waterman on the Potomac River. He was a member of American Legion Post 148 and VFW Post 10574.
Survivors include one sister, Ethel Lavinus of Alexandria; two sons, Harry Studds of Alexandria and John Studds of Edenton, N.C.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Carroll Studds, in 1928; his first wife, Mildred Studds, in 1951; one son, Richard Studds, in 1976; and his second wife of 49 years, Eleanor Studds, in 2005.
A memorial service will be held to honor and remember John at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home, 131 Third St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443. Private committal of ashes will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
