Born in Mexico, Marie spent her childhood in Monterrey. She was educated in Macon, Georgia. She met Ernesto Lopez when she came to Northern New Mexico to visit an aunt. She and her husband built Rancho de la Paz in 1934, the first home in the area with running water with power supplied by a windmill. They raised cattle, sheep, and a variety of fruit. She was a retired educator and principal of San Juan Elementary School for 25 years.
The funeral mass was at St. John the Baptist Church in San Juan Pueblo. Cremation was followed by burial in the El Guique Cemetery.
