Josephine Strope Bidlack, 96, widow of Jay William Bidlack, of Ulster, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born January 24, 1907, in Burlington, she was one of 13 children of the late Hollister Ardell Strope and Frances "Belle" Strait Strope. Josephine attended the Towanda schools and in early years served as a switchboard operator for the Commonwealth Telephone Company in Ulster. Her main interest in life encompassed her home and family. She was a member of the Ulster United Methodist Church. Surviving are; two daughters, Hilda Jones, of Chemung View Apartments, Athens, Phyllis Drabinski, of Sayre; her daughter-in-law, Ruth L. Bidlack, of Towanda; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her sister; Lillian Dieffenbach, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by; her husband, Jay William Bidlack, on February 11, 1979; her son, Edwin L. "Ed" Bidlack Sr., on November 24, 1998; a granddaughter, Debra Ann Jones Wishner; and by 4 sisters and 8 brothers. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Bowen-Farr Funeral Home, 6 Gordon Farr St. Ulster, Pa. Interment will follow in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Ulster United Methodist Church in care of Arthur Young, P.O. Box 131 Ulster, Pa. 18850, in Josephine Strope Bidlack's memory.
