WARREN — Calvin Warner Strong, 82, passed away with his loving family around him on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014.

Cal was a well known and liked lumberjack competitor, body builder (Mr. CT 1959 and Mr. New England.)

He was a professional boxer, weight lifter, arm wrestler, milk truck driver, woodsman, a bouncer at the Berkshires and served four years in the Navy. He retired as a mechanic with CL&P after 31 years.

Cal was born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., lived three years in Hardwick, Vt., then permanently on the Strong homestead on Above All Road in Warren, Conn. There he had a small farm with a pond, cabins, woods and trails.

Cal loved playing the harmonica, reading, opera, classical music, Western movies, working in the woods, all animals, and lumberjack competitions, which he passed down to his children. He rode his motorcycle for 65 years.

Cal married Vanda Shaw in 1958; they were married for 34 years until her passing in 1992. He remarried in 2003 to Jennifer Michelson Strong. Cal is survived by his two brothers, David Strong of Montezuma, N.C., and Kenneth Strong of Waterbury, wife Jennifer Michelson Strong, her daughter, Sunny Bettley, and son, Dash Kellner, of Boca Raton, Fla.; Cal's children, Serry Kilson of Dalton, N.H., Donald and Mary Strong of Suffolk, Va., Shannon Strong and David Gereg of Warren. He was also blessed with four grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Cal was an honest, noble, dependable and hard working man. He was a warm, wonderful husband and father, loved and respected by everyone, people and animals alike.

Services will be this Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. at Warren Woods on Brick School Road in Warren. Please bring your memories and laughter, as Cal and the family wish for a celebration of his life.
