Mrs. Ella Strickland Allen, 95, of Waycross died Monday night at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Schlatterville, Georgia to the late Alfonso Strickland and Rosie Douglas Strickland. Mrs. Allen lived for many years in Pierce County and Ware County. She was a homemaker who loved spending her time helping others. Mrs. Allen was a member of Deenwood Baptist Church. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Allen, Sr., a son, David Allen, a grandson, James Alan Washburn, three brothers, Roy Strickland, Floyd Strickland, Demery Strickland, five sisters, Goldie Aldridge, Fannie Mercer, Rosa Lee Pierce, Nora Hendrix and Stella Sapp.
She is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Sapp and her husband Johnny of Jacksonville, Florida, Geneva Bryant of Waycross, Georgia Stubbs of McKinney, Texas, Doris Watson and her husband George of Waycross, a son, George Allen, Jr., and his wife Susie of McKinney, Texas, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11 am, Thursday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Appling County. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in honor of "Mrs. Ella S. Allen" to a charity of your choice.
