Lola Mabel Sturdevant, daughter of Ransom and Nellie Sturdevant was born at Minden, Nebraska and departed this life April 27, 1953 at the home of her sister in Smith Center, Kansas.
When Lola was but a small child she moved with her parents from Minden to Franklin, where she lived most of her life.
She was united in marriage to Elsworth McClurg at Franklin and to this union was born one child a son. Her husband passed away in 1914.
Later she was united in marriage to Henry Strayer of Franklin at which place they resided until he passed away in 1943. To this union was born three children; two daughters, Ethel and Lola and a son Harry.
Lola was one of those rare people who made a dear friend of every acquaintance. Her every desire was to help others and to them the happiness and love one she could give. She gave willingly of her time to those in sickness and need. Those trials and tribulations of life were surmounted by her great desire to live a full life. That space in life left by her passing, will only be filled by memories of those countless deeds of good that she performed throughout her lifetime; the fond memories that live forever in the hearts of loved ones.
She leaves to mourn her passing her four children, Elsworth McClurg of Hastings, Ethel James of Cody Wyoming, Lola Laurent of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Harry of Hastings, her aged mother, a sister, Nellie Kunkel, a brother, Leonard Sturdevant all of Smith Center, Kansas; Jun and John Sturdevant of St. Paul and Oliver Sturdevant of Greeley, Colorado; five step-children, Viola Leggett of Rudsport, Oregon, Frances Hughes of Franklin, Nettie Eaton of Colorado, Eugene Strayer of McCook, Charlie Strayer of Washington; five grandchildren and six nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
L. L. Goldsbury and T. R. Blank sang, accompanied by Mrs. Minnie Kleen.
Pallbearers were Gerald Greening, Earl Treddenbarger, Alvin Haussermann, Herman Seathoff, Keith Lantis and Bob Treddenbarger.
Funeral rites were held Saturday from the Hutchins Funeral Home at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev John Bucknell. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
