BLOOMINGTON -- Challis C. Cahal, 88, of 1509 N. Calhoun St., Bloomington, died at 1:23 a.m. Friday (Aug. 4, 2006) at Asta Care Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Arthur Headley officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be at the memorial home one hour before the service. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in LeRoy, a daughter of Wilbur and Essie Vanatta Strange. She married Sherman Cahal in January 1950. He died in January 1990.

She is survived by a son, Martin Cahal, Bloomington; two sisters, Charlotte Phelps and Betty Erio, both of Springfield; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Steven, Phillip and Gregory; two brothers, Lamar and Howard Strange; and a sister, Mildred Andrews.

Mrs. Chahal worked as a beautician for Hilda's Beauty Shop in Bloomington for many years.
