Esther Stone Gratton, 71; former Pittsfield resident, died this morning at the Storehouse Nursing Home, Worcester. She was the widow of the Rev. John Gratton, minister for 23 years at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, here until his retirement in 1952. He died in 1953. Mrs. Gratton was born in London, England, the daughter of James B. and Mary Jane Maddison Stone, and was a graduate of Bedford College of London University. She was a teacher for some years, both in England and in this country. She came to Pittsfield to make her home in 1928, when her husband became minister of the First Congregational Church. Mrs. Gratton was a member of that Church and active in the women's groups of the church, serving for many years as secretary of the Free Will Society. After her husband's retirement in 1952, they moved to Hadley, but she returned here in 1953 following his death. She had moved to Worcester a year ago. While in Worcester, she attended the Central Congregational Church. Mrs. Gratton leaves a son, James S. Gratton of Worcester; three daughters, Mrs. William T. Clark of Glens Falls, N.Y., Mrs. David Graham of Fitchburg and Mrs. Wilfred T. Small of Worcester; two sisters, Miss Olive Stone and Miss Muriel Stone, both of London, England; a brother, Gilbert- of Devonshire, England; 13 grandchildren and a niece and a nephew. Services will be Friday afternoon at 3 in the First Congregational Church. The Rev. E. Roy Burchell, pastor, will officiate.

REV. JOHN GRATTON TO WED IN BOSTON
The marriage of the Rev. John Gratton, pastor of the Highland Park Church of Christ, to Miss Esther Ruby Stone of London, England, which will be solemnized next week in Boston, is of interest to a large circle of friends of the former. The groom was graduated from Drake University and was ordained in June, having supplied the pulpit of the Highland Park Church of Christ for the last year. Miss Stone is a young English girl, who has been teaching for a few years in one of the London high schools.
Rev. Mr. Gratton left the city last evening for New York to meet Miss Stone, who will arrive Saturday. They will go to Boston where they will be married by a mutual friend.
