George Henry Stokes (1943 - 2011)

George Henry Stokes, 68, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011, surrounded by his family. Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethesda Baptist Church, 135 E. Bethesda Road, Burleson. Interment: 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

George was born Feb. 22, 1943, in Fort Worth to Blanche and John Stokes. He was a genuine man with great character and humor. Some of his hobbies were gardening, beekeeping and storytelling. He was known to say, "If you don't embellish, it's not worth telling." His love of his family was only surpassed by his love of God. George was a longtime member, deacon, bass singer in the choir and Sunday school teacher for his church home.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doug and Sam Stokes, and one sister, Naomi Stokes.

Survivors: Wife, Kay Stokes; children, Brad Stokes and wife, Missy, and Lori Flores and husband, Gabriel; mother, Blanche Stokes; brother, Albert Stokes and wife, Judy; and grandchildren, Gabe Flores, Jacob Flores, David Flores, Henry Stokes and Jack Stokes.
