Mr. Stokes was born in Hollywood, Missouri on February 12, 1929 and was retired from masonry work and auto repair.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge 1030 and the local Amateur Radio Club.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Stokes of the home; two sons, Harvey J. Stokes of Greenville, Illinois, and James L. Stokes of Cahokia, Illinois. He is also survived by one brother, Cecil L. Stokes of Holly Pond, Alabama; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Schoenfeld of Hartford, Michigan; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence V. and Mattie Stokes; and one brother, L. W. Stokes.
Funeral services were at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
