JOHN STOCKDALE
KILLED IN CHICAGO
(Chicago Tribune)

James Bennett of Beloit, Wis., a patient of the Garfield Park sanitarium and said to be a sufferer from hallucinations, is reported to have attacked and killed John Stockdale, 65 years old, of Lake Park, Iowa, also a patient.

The Latter has been at the hospital several weeks and was suffering from hardening of the arteries. Bennett is 25 years old. According to the police of the West Lake street station, the attack was commited in a ward of the hospital. We understand that one Bennett, in the absence of his nurse, in a frantic moment broke from his room and with a chair broke down the door of Mr. Stockdales room and attacked Mr. Stockdale with the above results.

LAKE PARK

A telegram was received here Sunday morning from Chicago by Mrs. J. Stockdale containing the sad news that her husband, John Stockdale, who has been in Chicago for the past year and one-half in a private sanitarium, died on Saturday night. Mrs. Stockdale and her son Guy, left the same day for Chicago. Mr. Stockdale was seventy-two years of age. Prior to his going to Chicago he was in very poor health and suffered a complete nervous breakdown and went there with the hope that he might be benefitted by the treatment and would be able to receive better care than was possible here. Mrs. Stockdale had returned only a short time ago from visiting him and found that he was failing fast.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday at Walcott, Iowa, his old home for many years prior to his coming to Lake Park seven years ago. Besides his wife and son he leaves to mourn his death his sister, Mrs. H. Bock and a brother at San Diego, Calif., besides other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Stockdale was widely known throughout the state, having large business interests here and elsewhere and was a man of high ideals and business principles, and much respected and loved by those who knew him. The sympathy of all go out to the bereaved wife and son.

Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Stouffer left Monday evening for Walcott to attend the Funeral.
