Nora Alice Stice Bergstresser, know as "Pinky" to family members, was born October 21, 1928 in Norman, Oklahoma, to Earl and Lillian Stice. She passed away January 3, 2011 in Little Rock, AR. She attended Noble High School for three years. Her senior year, she attended and graduated from Tecumseh High School. In 1946 she married her high school friend and soul mate, Gene Bergstresser. They had a 64-year happy marriage. Nora earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's Degree in Education in 1970 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She was employed 161/2 years with Tulare City Schools, Tulare, California. She worked in a variety of positions including Classroom Teacher, Reading Resource Teacher, and Supervisor of Reading Labs, and as the District Language Arts Coordinator. While teaching full-time, she was inspired to continue her education and earned a Community College Instructor Credential, a Reading Specialist Credential, and a Service Credential in Administration. Nora served as President of the Tulare County Reading Council and was presented the Tulare County Award for her contribution of Achievement in the field of Reading. Gene and she attended International Reading Conference in Hawaii and in 1978 attended the World Reading Conference in Hamburg, Germany. In 1979 Nora served as an ordained Deacon in the Visalia, California, Presbyterian Church and is a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Norman, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Howard Stice. She is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; a son, Darry Bergstresser and wife Cathy of Edmond, Oklahoma; a daughter, Darlene Yousey and husband Bill of Norman, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren: Sarah Yousey, Aimee Yousey, and Keith Bergstresser, all of Norman; one brother, John Earl Stice and wife Dolphine of Huntsville, Texas; one sister-in-law, Jimmie Lou Stice of Norman, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. Other family members include Stephen Carina, and Austin Simpson; David and Melissa Clymer; and Dean, Amanda, and Abriana Koleada. In accordance with her wishes, there will be a memorial held Saturday, January 22, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 24th Avenue SW, Norman, OK, with Bob Reynolds officiating. A family graveside service at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery will be held at a later date. A memorial may be given "In memory of Nora A. Bergstresser" to University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) Multiple Myeloma Cancer Research.
