She was born October 17, 1921 in Gilson, IL to G. Otto and Effie L. (Sherman) Stiarwalt.
Martha married John W. Henderson on February 14, 1946 in Maquon. He preceded her in death in May of 1990.
Survivors include one son, John (Kathryn) Henderson of Canton; one grandson, Michael (Shelley) Henderson of Peoria; one great-grandson, Logan Henderson; and two nieces, Leslie Mansfield and Georgia Carmody.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
She worked in the nursing field for over 40 years, last working as the evening shift floor supervisor at Graham Hospital. She was active in the D.A.R., New England Women, and the Knox County Historical Society. She was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2010 at Yates City Cemetery, with Rev. Dan Doty officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Maquon United Methodist Church.
