Dies at 71


GALLIPOLIS - Mrs. Florence W. Stewart, 71, of Cheshire, died at 1:35 a.m. Saturday at the home of her son, Sidney Stewart of 38 Locust St., where she had been one week. Death came after an illness dating back a year, when she submitted to surgery.

Born June 27, 1882, in Mason County, Mrs. Stewart was one of nine children of Charles and Sarah See Winebrenner. Two sisters, Mrs. Ivan (Georgia) Cowen of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Carl (Bessie) Ohlinger, Bucyrus, survive with four brothers, Homer Winebrenner of Corning, Clyde and Robert of Middleport, and Dale of Columbus.

She was educated in Mason County schools and at an early age joined a Baptist church near Leon. She was married Sept. 27, 1902, to Elihu Stewart of Mason County, who died two years ago.

They are survived by eight children: Raymond Stewart of Bulaville, Sidney of Gallipolis, Mrs. Harold (Audrey) Clark of Marion, Robert, Bucyrus, Mrs. T.W. (Clyda) Payne of Columbus, Gerald of Marion, Mrs. Donald (Anna Lee) Thomas of Cheshire, and Mrs. William (Betty) Fife of Cheshire.

Mr. and Mrs. Elihu Stewart moved to Gallia County 31 years ago, and to Cheshire 14 years ago.

Funeral services will be held at to 2 p.m. Monday at the Cheshire Baptist Church, the Rev. H.M. Smith of Gallipolis and the Rev. Sherley Woods of Cheshire officiating. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call until hour of the last rites at Miller's Funeral Home.
