Lynda had a rough life from the beginning. Due to family problems her grandparents, Millie and Robert Baldwin, raised her. She had her first child at 16, Paula, whose father was Paul Pendry.
Soon after, she married David Darrell Puckett. This marriage was an abusive one, but she had three more children to give her joy. She gave birth to T. "Carol" Puckett in May of 1962, David Darrell Puckett in June of 1963, and Mariah Lake Puckett in 1967. At one point her husband was sent to prison and she met another man and was pregnant with his child, when David escaped from prison and kidnapped her leaving Paula and Carol in Michigan, he took Lynda to an unspecified location in Ohio where she delivered a baby girl around 1966, the baby was adopted by an unknown "friend". At 9 months old a tragic misdiagnoses left Mariah in a vegetative state, and she died at 16. In 1975 she finally divorced Darrell Puckett.
Lynda found happiness and married a good man, Billy F. Stevenson. Together they built a business selling Mexican imports. They then opened a scrap gold and silver business, and a fireworks company. She and Billy had a child, Billy Lynn Stevenson. They did quite well in their business endeavors, and were able to indulge in some luxuries they never had in their youth. On the Fourth of July 1981, their fireworks business had done well, making around $200,000 . The banks were closed, so they were forced to take the large amount of cash home with them.
At 10 p.m. on July 5th a family friend came to visit, bringing with him a man known to them as his bodyguard. Carol, Lynda's daughter, let them in and went home, but at 5:30 the next morning she received a phone call that the house was on fire. When she rushed there, smoke filled the sky and the road was packed with emergency vehicles.
In the rubble they found Lynda, her husband Billy, son Billy Lynn (only 5), and brother Eddie Dowell. All four had been shot. Carol's testimony managed to put the "bodyguard" in prison, making the residents of tiny Bethel Ohio, feel safe again. The police suspected another shooter was involved, but, sadly, there were no additional convictions, the suspect has since died.
