TO HOLD FUNERAL OF MRS. BOYER THURSDAY
Mrs. Josephine Boyer died at five-thirty this morning at 202 Thompson street, Staunton. She had been in declining health for six months. Mrs. Boyer was born in Monterey, a daughter of Lucius Holmes Stephenson and his wife, Mary Campbell Stephenson, both of whom were born in Highland county. She was united in marriage to Joseph W. Boyer, of Woodstock, in 1916. Mr. Boyer was president of the Boyer Wholesale Grocery Company and they made their home there until Mr. Boyer died in 1933. Mrs. Boyer leaves a sister, Mrs. Charles S. Roller Jr. of Fort Defiance; two brothers, Boyd Stephenson, commonwealth’s attorney of Highland county & L. Homer Stephenson, of Monterey. Mrs. Boyer in her early youth united with the Presbyterian Church of Monterey & when she moved to Woodstock twenty-five years ago, connected herself with the Woodstock Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Mary Baldwin Seminary, now Mary Baldwin College. She was a modest, unassuming Christian woman. By precept, by example, and by material things she aided the cause of foreign missions to a wonderful degree. She had great enthusiasm for all patriotic organizations, and held offices in the Presbyterian and the Auxiliary of the two Churches with which she was connected. She was a lover of nature, and her interest and success in flowers and shrubs and in flower gardens was very unusual. The body will rest at the home of her sister, Mrs. Roller, Wednesday and Thursday, until services are held Thursday morning at eleven-thirty o’clock at the Presbyterian Church at Monterey, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. L.D. Gibbs of Woodstock, assisted by the Rev. A.E. Johnson of Monterey and the Rev J M. McBryde of Old Stone Presbyterian Church, and Rev. L.M. Moffett of McDowell. Burial will be in the Monterey cemetery beside the graves of her parents
