Eliza Olive Bush was born near Decatur, ILL., Dec. 31, 1858,to George and Nancy Whiteside Bush. She was one of six
children. The family traveled by covered wagon from Illinois to a new home near Dayton, Mo.,when the subject of our sketch was about ten years old. With the exception of a year spend in Cedar county and two in Bates, she had lived since in Cass county.
She was married to John Thomas Stephens, December 2, 1875 and five sons and five daughters were born to them. The first child a daughter died in infancy and the youngest, a son, was killed at the age of 14, when a tornado swept thru their community June 15, 1912. John Franklin died on August 16, 1935. The husband and father died at the home in Dayton July 22, 1934.
Mrs Stephens died Septenber 23, 1948 at the home of her daughter, Mrs Edna McCoy in Raymore, Mo. She is survived by three other daughters, Mrs Julia Lenhart, Mrs Irma Sexson and Mrs Iris Frtzwater, all of Garden City; three sons, George, Adrian; Irvin, Harrisonville and Cleveland, Los Angeles. Also surviveng are 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Georgia Wells of Texas and Mrs Fannie Freeman of California.
