Judy was a homemaker in the early years when her children were still at home. As they grew older she worked for the Stewart Seed Co. in Greensburg and The Village Store in Oldenburg. Most recently she worked in the Batesville Middle School Cafeteria, before retiring in 2012. Judy had such a bubbly personality, which made her a "favorite" among her many family and friends. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her children stated they had a sibling rivalry, where each would say, "She is my Mom!" They also joked that their Mom had the loudest voice and could often be heard over other people's conversations. She loved to cook and bake, with some of the family favorites being stacks of pancakes, homemade noodles, Christmas cookies and pumpkin pie. When she would serve the pie, a request for a sliver always turned into a quarter of it. Her homemade strawberry jam was especially a favorite of her grandkids. Judy would often use the phrase, "Life is too short" which is why her and Tom would not regret all the short trips and sightseeing that they did together, with Renfro Valley being among their favorites. She loved to follow the Cincinnati Reds and was an avid viewer of the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. During her illness, she lovingly acquired the nickname "Queenie" and could often be found watching re-runs of The Walton's and Little House on the Prairie on the Hallmark Channel.
She is survived by her husband Thomas; sons and daughter-in-laws Tim and Jeannie Bedel of Lanesville, Indiana, Jeff Bedel of Cincinnati, Ohio, Greg and Jill Bedel of Hamburg; daughters and son-in-laws Becky and Kurt Amberger of Hamburg, Kim and Cyrus Screwvala of Greensburg, Indiana; sisters Marge (Otto) Wietlisbach of Greensburg; Gerry (Richard) Buckler of Brookville, Janet (Tony) Bedel of Greensburg; brother Edward (Kathy) Stenger of Brookville; grandchildren Kaitlin, Adam, Alex, Amelia and Ashley Bedel and Rachel, Nicole and Max Amberger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother Mary Stenger.
Visitation is Monday, December 15th, from 4 - 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 am, Tuesday, December 16th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, with Rev. David Kobak, OFM officiating. The burial will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery in Hamburg. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorials may be given for masses or to the family to offset medical expenses.
