George R. Stegner, 80, of Versailles, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
He was born May 13, 1924, in Holton, the son of Virgil and Madeline Decker Stegner. He was a registered X-ray technician, and a retired employee of the former Jefferson Proving Ground. He was a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church; the Versailles F. & A.M., No. 7; and was a 33rd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Murat Shrine; Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite; the Ripley County Historical Society; the York Rite; and had been named a Kentucky Colonel. He had served for 12 years on the Versailles Town Board; and had served on the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission.
Surviving are one son, Gary Stegner of Versailles; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Audrey Jackson Stegner, Feb. 7, 2000; and one brother, Virgil Stegner.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles, with burial in the Holton Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. A Masonic service will be held by the Versailles Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Tyson United Methodist Church, or the Versailles Masonic Lodge, in care of the funeral home.
