Edward Marvin Steglich

June 8, 1935 - January 27, 2009

Funeral services for Edward Steglich, 73, of Giddings were held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery. A prayer service was held Thursday evening at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with the family present for visitation.

Mr. Steglich passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mark's Medical Center in La Grange.

Edward Marvin Steglich was born on June 8, 1935 in Serbin to Emil & Esther (Driessner) Steglich. He was baptised on June 10, 1935 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Hermann Schmidt and confirmed there as well on April 10, 1949 by Rev. Arthur Arndt.

Edward was united in marriage to Evelyn Wolf on January 30, 1965 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Arthur Arndt. He was a lifelong rancher who enjoyed hunting and fishing and could sing beautifully in German, especially Christmas carols.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton Steglich; sister, Lorraine Zoch; brother-in-laws, Royce Namken, Robert Nitsche and Herbert Falke; two great nephews, Jamin Nitsche and Wyatt Trigg and niece-in-law, Linda Nitsche.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Steglich of Giddings; 2 sisters, Helen & Glen Whitley of Smithville and Laverne Nitsche Falke of Giddings; 2 sisters-in-law, Mildred Namken of Bastrop and Annie Fick of Pinehurst; nieces, Gloria & Vestine Walthers, Judy Zoch, Virginia & Andy Valero, Peggy & Larry Noles, Mary Ann & Dan Horn, Betty & Bill Pantel and Patsy & Wes Trigg; nephews, R.J. & Ruth Nitsche, Kenneth & Carol Nitsche, Gary & Kathie Nitsche, Billy & Rose Zoch, Jimmy & Lori Zoch and Wally & Janet Namken as well as numerous other great nieces, great nephews, other family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Allen Wolf, Gary Nitsche, Rhett Trigg, R.J. Nitsche, Brent Bing and Jimmy Luecke. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Mertink and Wally Namken.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
