Passed Away at Family Home,
Los Medanos, on Wednesday
An illness covering several weeks, culminated in the death of John Steele at the family home at the Standard oil Company's pumping station, Los Medanos, on Wednesday. In the hope of securing relief, he underwent an operation recently, but his condition did not improve.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, October 1, at the family home, Los Medanos. The interment is to be in the Masons and Odd Fellows Cemetery, east of Antioch.
The deceased was a native of England and aged 48 years. He came to this country when a young man and located first in Boston, where he remained for some time, and while in that city became affiliated with the Order of St. George, a benevolent organization with a large membership. He removed to California about ten years ago and had been employed on the Standard Oil Company's pipe lines, being at the Los Medanos station west of town about three years, and previous to that was connected with the Los Gatos station.
Mr. Steele was a fine type of man, devoted to his family and friends and a steady and reliable workman, being held in high esteem by his employers and fellow workers. There survive a wife and daughter, Miss Madeline, who have the sympathy of many in their sorrow.
