MRS. F. W. STEADLEY DEAD
Passed Away This Afternoon [Friday, JAN 28th 1898] at 1:30
Funeral Sunday
Mrs. F. W. Steadley died at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at her home on Pine street.
She has been an invalid for years and passed away after a long and weary season of patient suffering.
During the recent years everything possible has been done for her by a loving husband but her life could not be saved. She was taken to Chicago for treatment but she grew no better and she was brought back to Carthage.
A few days ago as a last resort she submitted to an operation which was at first regarded as very successful. Yesterday, however, she began to sink and grew gradually weaker until the end came today. She was the wife of F. W. Steadley, of the well known jewelry firm of Steadley Bros., and the sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the bereaved husband.
She leaves two little sons, Ray aged 10 years and Kent aged 17. Mrs. Steadley was born in Carrollton, MO., and has lived in Carthage since 1890. She was a woman of unusual mental capacity, a loving wife and mother and a consistent member of the Christian church. Through all her long years of suffering she bore up with patient gentleness and suffered, without a murmur.
The remains will be interred Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the *West Cemetery.
There will be no funeral service save a short one at the grave, which will be conducted by Mrs. Sarah Lindsay.
*FOOTNOTE
In early days, many referred to Park Cemetery as West cemetery because it was on the West side of town
