Martha June Arthur was born to the late Romie Orville Stalnaker and Martha Jane Watson in Sandyville. WV. She was also preceded in death by her husband Roger Arthur Sr., and Roger Jr., her brother Gene, and her sisters Erline and Eloise. In the late 40s, she came to Charleston, WV to live and help out one of her sisters. While here she attended Charleston High until her senior year when she returned home and graduated from Ripley High School. After graduation she moved back to Charleston and worked at both Evans Super Market and Kroger's. In 1951, she married Roger Arthur Sr. and started their "Sentimental Journey." In 1955, they bought a business on the West Side called The Grill and later their home, all within walking distance of each other in the Elk City Area. The Grill became a popular eatery where they still make "June's Macaroni Salad" recipe. During this time they started a family and had five children. Once they all started growing and diversified she found time for each one and their interest whether scouts, homeroom mother, Sunday school, Bible school teacher, PTA, coach, referee driver, cheerleader etc. ... you get the picture. She did it all while struggling with poor health and severe pain, but she came to watch whether it was a musical program or a sporting event. She was the biggest fan of whatever we chose to do, and avid sports fan especially of WVU, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Cincinnati Reds. She was a 50 year member of Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church and received the Honorary Membership in Presbyterian Women USA for her leadership and many years of service to Bream. She was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority. Her time spent at The Grill created an extended family beyond belief. Whether seven or 70, people called her mom and she loved that. She was an awesome cook and passed down that talent to her children which has served them well. She lived the last few years with her buddy,-her dog,- Lilly and her daughter, who has taken care of her.
Surviving are two daughters, two sonsm and a sister.
