IRENE SPRAGUE-BENSON
Irene Sprague-Benson, age 83, of Ft. Lauderdale (formerly of Clare), passed away September 9, 1999, at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids after a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 3, 1916 in Clare County, the daughter of Chester and Bertha Sprague. She was united in marriage to Howard Benson in 1963, and he preceded her in death in 1980. She had worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as the Chief Operator for 25 years.
Irene is survived by one sister, Eunice and Jim Carter-Reynolds of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Dr. Donald and Diana Sprague of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Sprague, and two sisters, Dorothy Denton and Lucille Beadle.
Funeral services were held September 13 from the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare, with Rev. Paul C. Fetzer officiating. Burial was in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.
