Once a Broadway musical star, Spitz was a leader in philanthropic affairs and a worker on behalf of the Uniter Nations. Born Frankie James, she started her show biz career at 14 in the chorus of a George M. Cohan musical. She was hailed as one of the beauties of B roadway and was Al Jolson's lead in the Broadway show "Big Boy." She retired from the stage when she married Leo Spitz. Following her husband's death, she worked with the UN and became a deputy treasurer of the WFUNA.
