On Sunday, October 13, 1918, Mrs. Mattie Spencer Poole was laid to rest in Riverview after a brief illness of pneumonia. Sorrowful indeed were the many relatives and friends who followed the body to its last resting place. Gentle, kind and loving, always thoughtful of others, she was greatly beloved by all who knew her. Just in the prime of her young life, being only 25, and the only child of James M. and Mary L. Spencer, it was hard to give her up.

All is dark within our dwelling;
Lonely are our hearts today
Because the one we loved so dearly
Has forever passed away

Farewell, dear husband, weep not for me,
Those gates ajar I soon shall see;
My paths are over, I fall asleep,
To wake again at Jesus' feet.

Farewell to you, my children dear,
Ask God to dry your falling tears;
My time has come and I must leave,
Dear husband and children, do not grieve.

Farewell to you, brother, mother,
I rest with Jesus and all is well;
Within those gates I firmly stand,
Watching and waiting to clasp your hand.
BY THOSE WHO LOVED HER.
