Alice Marie Hendrix Spencer

Funeral services for Alice Marie Hendrix Spencer, 94, of Rayville were held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel in Rayville with Rev. Mickey Bounds and Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Interment followed in Shanks Cemetery, Rayville.

Alice was born January 27, 1914 and passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Spencer was a member of West New Home Baptist Church and WMU member. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She loved to work and spend time in her garden. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Spencer; parents, Martin and Samantha Hendrix; brother, Terry Lee Hendrix; and great grandchild, Jackson Tudor.

God and her church were the center of her life. The many Christian friends she and our Father acquired while members of West New Home Baptist Church were an immeasurable part of their lives. Our Daddy and we (3) children were our Mother's prized possessions here on earth. She was a very devoted, caring and loving wife and Mother whom will be greatly missed by our family.

Our Mother worked for Stokes Grocery for many years. She then worked for 10 years at Richland Council On Aging.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Bennie Roark of Monroe and Sharon and Eddie Tudor of Pearl, MS; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and DeWanna Spencer of Rayville and sister, Blanche Young of Rayville; 13-grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Phil Roark, Len Spencer, Chris Spencer, Todd Tudor, Chad Tudor, and Greg Traweek. Honorary pallbearers were Joey Chaney, Johnny Harrington, Claydeen Clack, Bendel Clack, Mr. and Mrs. John Wright, and Paul Wright.

The family would like to give special thanks to the following people: Dr. David Thompson, Bill Stansbury, Betty Avants, Viola White, Stacy Smith and Beth Cobb.

Our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the Richardson Medical Center for all their attentiveness and love during our Mother's hospital stays.

We also want to express our appreciation to Hospice Ministries and their nursing staff for the compassion and care shown during the last week of our Mother's life.

We will long remember and forever be thankful to all nurses, CNA's, and the kitchen staff at Rayville Nursing and Rehabilitation.

We (3) children want to thank Bennie Roark for his untiring love and devotion to our Mother during her stay at the nursing home.
