Lillie Frances Spence was born on February 25, 1882 in Brunswick County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Benjamin James Spence and Elizabeth Ellen Wray Spence. She was married to Joseph Benjamin Coley on March 11, 1896 and they had six children together: Joseph Albert, Laura Mae, Robert Edward, Nannie Bet, Mary Ellen and Stewart Benjamin(Buck). She developed complications while trying to deliver twins and died on May 1, 1915. She was buried next to her mother.
