Doris Jean Spears passed away Jan. 2, 2010 in Bakersfield, Calif. She was a resident of Weldon, Calif., where she has lived approximately 18 years. Doris is survived by her husband Charles (Chuck) Spears; daughter Char Costantino of Upland, Calif.; three sons, Charlie Spears of Kingman, Ariz., Steve Spears of San Mateo, Calif., and Gary Spears of Yucaipa, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and one sister Lola Creed of Shawnee, Okla.
Born Doris Jean Underwood in Stigler, Oklahoma, July 6, 1935, she grew up in Salinas, Calif., where she met Charles Spears, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, in 1954. They were married 54 years.
The couple moved to San Dimas, Calif., in 1960 to begin raising their family. Doris had many careers during her life, working in grocery stores up to office management, she owned a hair salon, and purchased a Century 21 franchise where she worked as an owner/realtor until 1996.
They moved to Lake Isabella (Weldon) to retire. Doris was involved with TOPS, she had a wonderful vegetable garden, beautiful rose garden, and loved to fish. She was an outstanding cook and there wasn't anything she couldn't do. She loved life and everything in it. She loved her family more than anything and cherished all the times she had with them. Doris was a wonderful person who was loved by everyone and will be missed by all. She will forever live in our hearts.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday Jan. 6, 2010 at Sierra Valley Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery.
