UPPER SANDUSKY - Henry J. Southward, 80, US 30 East, Route 1, died Wednesday at the residence of his son Monty, with whom he had lived two years.
Mr. Southward was born March 7, 1905, in Forest, a son of William F. and Leona M. Bowman Southward. His first wife, Mildred Swihart Southward preceded him in death. His second wife, the former Lucille Green, whom he married in 1941, survives.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a certified carpenter and was employed as head foreman during the expansion of Bowling Green State University. He also worked for the Ford Motor Co. in research and development. He was affiliated with John Stewart United Methodist Church and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Wyandot County Sportsmen Association.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Young, Upper Sandusky; two sons, Monty and Daniel Southward; both Upper Sandusky; a stepson, Harry Schurr, Wapakoneta; two brothers, James Southward, Marion, and Paul Southward, Fayetteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Five brothers, five sisters and a grandson are deceased.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Bringman & Co. funeral home, with the Rev. James Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.
