She was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Chicago, to James and Rose (Slomski) Soukup. On June 2, 1945, she married William D. Burns at St. Peter Canisius Church in Chicago.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and was involved with start-up of the Sparrow Nest in McHenry, where she logged in 8,000 volunteer hours. After health issues, her volunteer work became limited. She also belonged to McHenry T.H.E.O.S. (To Help Each Other Smile).
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Gary) Harwood, William J. Burns and Patricia Buncik; grandchildren,Tracey Harwood {Gary Neil}, Janet(Jeff) Miller, Nancy (Justin) Vliet, Daniel (Marla) Buncik and Deanna (Eric) Woods; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Paige and Jayden Rose Harwood, Nevaeh, Erianna and Keira Woods and Calista and Nathan Vliet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Lee Ostrihan; son-in-law, Michael Buncik; and a grandson, Gary Neil Harwood. Entombment will be at in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
