Beth Bohling, the daughter of Blanch Emma (Wells) and Frank D. Snyder, was born July 24, 1922 at Davenport, Nebraska. She departed this life unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at her home in Superior, Nebraska.
Beth received her formal education attending the Davenport schools, graduating with the class of 1939. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Midland College at Fremont, and earned her Masters Degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1978. Beth was the first woman in Nebraska to receive a Masters in journalism from UNL. She worked for a period of time writing for a newspaper in Chicago.
On June 20, 1947 Beth was united in marriage with Arnold B Bohling at Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, Nebraska. They lived in Hastings, Nebraska where she worked for the Tribune as their society editor from 1947 to 1950. They moved to Deshler, Nebraska in 1955, and then in 1957, moved to Superior to make their home. In 1965, Beth began her employment with the Superior public schools, teaching English, journalism and speech classes. In 1974, she became a teacher at Hastings College in the journalism department. She later returned to teach again in Superior, retiring in 1987. In 1986, she was proud to have been among the five finalists for the Nebraska Teacher of The Year. She was currently working as a free lance correspondent with the Hastings Tribune.
She also dedicated her time and talents as editor of the "Expressions" which is the publication for ELCA church women. She was passionately involved with SCARED (South Central Area Rallying to Eliminate Drugs), the American Cancer Society and the Lady Vesty planning committee. She was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Superior, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Superior Pawnee Computer Society and she was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.
Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family. She believed that grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Arnold, on August 1, 2002; a daughter, Nita, in 1987; and a sister, Phyllis Schricker.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Bohling of McCook, Nebraska; Martha Bohling of Denver, Colorado; two grandsons, R.J. Bohling of Superior, Nebraska and Jason Wessel of Hastings, Nebraska, 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred "Mickey" Knapp and husband Jake of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Dave Snyder and wife Glenna of Wichita, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held this Tuesday 10:30 AM March 17, 2009 at the Salem Lutheran Church. Rev. Harold Stromer & PMA Irvin Schleufer will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Davenport Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Superior, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
