She was born on March 2, 1953 in Hinton.
Preceding her in death were her parents, David Elmo and Mildred Parker Smith.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Crystal Michelle Dotson and Jack Dotson; granddaughter, Abigail Michelle Dotson; brother, John David Smith; ex-husband, Charles McDowelle; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Debbie McDowelle and niece, Michaela McDowelle.
Sue was a licensed social worker in West Virginia for over 30 years, spending most of that time working for the Department of Health and Human Resources as a worker and supervisor. Sue was compassionate about her profession. She had a tremendous heart and went out of her way to help people in need. She touched many lives and built strong friendships with her coworkers. Family was extremely important to Sue and she was an excellent mother, grandmother and sister. She left a lasting impression on anyone she came in contact with.
Sue was a spiritual woman who loved God. She was a member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Charleston.
She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A tribute to the life of Sue will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Father Kent Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
