Mrs. Carter was born Nov. 4, 1860, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Samuel and Annetta Stewart Smith. Mr. Smith was well known as a Canonsburg pioneer and built the present Elks Home, then known as the Smith mansion.
Mrs Carter was the oldest member of Chartiers United Presbyterian Church, and its Mother's Club.
She was married to the late Joseph Carter, a blacksmith.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Alex Y. Stilson and two grandchildren. Dr. Carter Stilson and Joyce Stilson, all of New Haven, Conn. One daughter, Mrs. Josephine Weeks, is deceased.
Friends are being received at the W. Leonard Griffith Funeral Home where services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in charge of the Rev. Francis H. Scott, Chartiers United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Chartiers Hill Cemetery
