Mrs. J.R. Anthony
(By The Telescope's Wayne Corr.)

Fanny L. Smith was born at Bothwell, Canada, May 11, 1868 and departed this life at her home in Wayne December 4, 1941 at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 22 days.

At an early age she came to the United States with the family, settling in Chicago, Ill. After a few years spent in Springfield, Ill., the family came to Kansas, settling in Wichita.

In 1883 they came to Republic county (sic), and to the farm east of Wayne where she lived until September, 1898 when she was married to John R. Anthony. They made their home in Decatur county (sic) for five years after which she made Wayne her home.

At an early age she joined the Methodist church at Wayne, later transferring her membership to Kanona, from which church she never withdrew her membership.

For many years Mrs. Anthony has been in failing health, but until three weeks ago was able to wait on herself, and do with great effort many of her household duties.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker, who gave her best to her loved ones and home.

Her husband, John R. Anthony, preceded her in death three years ago. She was the last of her immediate family, her father, mother, five brothers and three sisters having left their earthly home.

She leaves to mourn her departure two daughters Mary Anthony of Wayne, and Mrs. Ruth Hughes of Manhattan; one grandson, John Karl Hughes, and her son-in-law, Karl Hughes of Manhattan; a number of nieces and nephews; besides many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. John W. Frint in charge. Burial was made in the Union cemetery (sic).
